Find: 2024 Jun 10
Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrita)
History: Many fresh pieces were found by a meteorite hunting group on June 10, 2024, in Algeria. The material was later sold from Feidalah Said to Mohamed Ali Loud.
Physical characteristics: Many grayish fragments largely covered with fusion crust.
Petrography: Brecciated basalt composed of up to 1 cm sized angluar to subrounded bulk rock clasts in fine-grained clastic matrix of related material. Clasts show intersertal textures and are predominatly composed of up to 700 µm sized compositionally zoned and finely exsolved pyroxenes plus often lath-shaped calcic plagioclase. Minor phases include silica, chromite, ilmenite, FeS, and Ni-free metallic iron.
Geochemistry: zoned low-Ca pyroxene: Fs43.9±7.9Wo7.3±1.0 (Fs36.7-54.6Wo5.5-8.8, FeO/MnO=25-31, n=7); augite exsolutions: Fs27.9±0.8Wo41.4±0.7 (Fs26.9-28.8Wo39.9-42.2, FeO/MnO=27-29, n=7); calcic plagioclase: An85.3±1.7 (An84.0-89.2, n=7)
Shock stage: low
Weathering grade: moderate
