Oswald Spengler - Пессимизм ли это? (Is this pessimism?) - 1/1000 - 1922

A highly scarce, early Soviet-era Russian translation of Oswald Spengler's "Pessimismus?". Published in Moscow in 1922 by the prominent cooperative publisher "Zadruga," this edition is strictly limited to a print run of only 1,000 copies (Тираж 1000 экз.), making it a remarkable survival of early 20th-century Russian intellectual history. Originally written by Spengler as a forceful defense of his controversial masterpiece, The Decline of the West (Der Untergang des Abendlandes), this Russian edition includes a dedicated preface by the translator, Pavel Popov. The preface is historically significant as it contextualizes Spengler's reception among the Russian intelligentsia, specifically referencing the responses of major philosophers like Nikolai Berdyaev, Semyon Frank, and Fedor Stepun—many of whom would be forcibly exiled from Soviet Russia later that same year (1922) on the infamous "Philosophers' ships." The book remains in its original, unpretentious grey paper wrappers, bearing the publisher's emblem, entirely representative of the material shortages and stark aesthetic of post-revolutionary printing in Moscow. Condition: Fair to Good antiquarian condition. The book remains in its original fragile paper wrappers. The edges of the wrappers exhibit chipping, creasing, and minor closed tears. There is some age-toning and light spotting to the covers, along with a contemporary handwritten number ("2342") near the top of the front wrap. The binding remains intact. Internally, the text block is complete (40 pages); the paper is uniformly age-toned as is standard for Soviet-era paper stock of this period, but the text remains perfectly legible and clean without heavy foxing or modern annotations.
