A nice collection of Ashanti waistbands, worn by young women of the Ashanti-people, during ceremonies and festivals. When dancing these bands, many together, make a nice rattling sound. Originally made in Bohemia (Czech republic) especially for the Ghanaian market in the 1960-70`s. These very thin discs are made of bakelite; a phenolic resin.
All ropes were made individually, depending on the availability of certain colours and sizes.
Sizes vary between 6-10-12-15 mm. Special colours are the yellow and green strings. Collected in Kumasi in the 1990`s.
