Tigela de chá - Grés - Miyajima Torii Chawan

Item Description This elegant matcha tea bowl (chawan) is a work of Yasaka-yaki (八坂焼), one of the historic kiln traditions of Kyoto ceramics (kyo-yaki), with records dating back to 1640. The piece comes housed in its original signed wooden box (tomobako), inscribed with the title "Eto-mon Miyajima Torii Chawan" — "Zodiac Sign / Miyajima Torii Tea Bowl" — confirming it as a commemorative tea bowl featuring the world-famous floating torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island, Hiroshima. The exterior body is covered in a warm ivory-cream glaze with fine all-over craquelure (kannyu), a hallmark of quality Japanese stoneware. The front face features a boldly hand-painted composition: the iconic torii gate rendered in iron-black pigment, rising dramatically above sweeping horizontal brushstrokes in iron-red (beni), evoking the tidal waters that surround the great floating gate at high tide. The reverse and sides display the subtle beauty of the craquelure alone. The interior is equally captivating — at the center of the bowl, a lively hand-painted nishiki-de polychrome rooster (tori) is depicted in iron-red, mustard-yellow, dark green, and black, a motif with zodiac significance as the rooster is one of the twelve animals of the Japanese calendar (eto). This interior motif explains the box inscription's reference to "eto-mon" (zodiac design). The foot ring (koudai) bears an impressed oval seal mark of the Yasaka-yaki kiln. A refined and collectible piece that unites two powerful Japanese cultural icons — the sacred Miyajima torii and the auspicious zodiac rooster — in a single, beautifully crafted traditional tea bowl. Size Height: 6.5 cm Width: 13 cm Depth: 13 cm Weight 235 g Condition The bowl is in good used condition with age-appropriate craquelure throughout the glaze; there is one small kiln-glaze chip/flaw visible on the exterior body (visible in the photographs), and light age-related patina, but no cracks or repairs. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
