Jarra - Bronze, Um vaso de bronze patinado com crisântemo e pardal. - Japão
A bronze vase with a brown patina, of slightly bulging cylindrical form, decorated on one side with a chrysanthemum in full bloom, rendered with well-defined petals; on the other, a sparrow perched on a rock. The two scenes are framed by geometric and archaic motifs.
The chrysanthemum, regarded as the imperial flower in Japanese tradition, is a symbol of longevity and regeneration and is often associated with the ideals of order and natural harmony.
With the Haitōrei Edict of 1876, which forbade the samurai from wearing swords, the metal masters of the Edo period transformed their craft. They turned to creating decorative art bronzes, refining alloys and patinas of extraordinary beauty.
The vase is in good condition. There are slight signs of wear consistent with the period. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
