Item Description:
This is a beautiful sōsaku kokeshi (creative kokeshi) crafted by the renowned Japanese artisan Sansaku Sekiguchi (関口三作).
The piece, titled Bujin (武人, meaning "warrior"), is believed to be inspired by Keikō no Bujin (挂甲の武人)—ancient armored warrior figures.
The design draws from the haniwa bujin (埴輪武人) terracotta warrior motifs, especially those excavated in Gunma Prefecture, which is also the birthplace of the artist.
This connection is fitting, as Gunma is famous for remarkable haniwa finds, such as the one registered here: Haniwa of Armored Warrior.

Sekiguchi has masterfully translated the form and spirit of these ancient warriors into a modern wooden sculpture.
The kokeshi features a helmet and body adorned with finely engraved details that echo the stylized armor of the Kofun period.
The warm tone and rich grain of the wood enhance the dignified and commanding presence of this piece.
A striking addition for collectors of Japanese folk art, history enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates cultural craftsmanship.
