This tea caddy features the "Tsuikin" decoration technique unique to Ryukyu lacquerware. In this method, a mixture of lacquer and pigment called "Tsuikin-mochi" is kneaded, thinly stretched, cut into specific shapes, and applied to the surface, creating a three-dimensional texture. Hibiscus flowers, symbols of Okinawa, are depicted on a black or red background.
