Espada - Espada, século XX - Sumatra (tamanho real!) - Indonésia

A fine and very old Sumatran ‘Pedang’ which is the literal translation for ‘sword’. Often found all over Sumatra with their typical carved hilts depicting floral motifs. The Sumatran swords are known for their fine detail in decoration, as is seen here on our example, the ferule is made of silvered brass and the wood has an incredible patina due to its age, and on some parts are slighly damaged. This is the oldest pedang I have ever had in my possession and look closely to the detailed photos so you can ensure it is really old! One of the finer examples of a sumatran pedang with typical shape and a decorated ferule. A true beautiful example of a Sumatran pedang with no restorations / repairs and fully original which is slightly worn but an interesting blade. The blade has traces of wear and surface rust and the hilt and shaft decorations are of high quality. The wood of the scabboard shows some signs (surface holes and scratches) Although this piece shows signs of use it has fantastic rich decoration. The honey-colored patina, which indicates its considerable age, combined with its elegant design, make it an ethnographic object of great interest. Dimensions: Hilt: 19 cm Blade length: 44 cm Total length: 63 cm Weight: 662 grams • The items will be carefully packaged and shipped within 1 working day with PostNL (including track & trace information) • Tracking will be updated on your Catawiki account once your package has been delivered.
