This elegant Te-moto-bako (stationery box) is adorned with the classic “Nami-Chidori” (Waves and Plovers) motif—an auspicious design symbolizing overcoming adversity, harmony, and marital happiness in traditional Japanese culture. The surface is finished in Tame-nuri, a sophisticated lacquer technique in which translucent urushi is layered over a dark base, creating a deep, lustrous burgundy-black tone that gains richness and depth with age.
