Detailed map of Europe showing cities, rivers, and lakes. In the upper right corner is a title cartouche; in the area of the Atlantic Ocean, sailing ships and sea monsters are depicted.
The map is based on the work of Willem Janszoon Blaeu, one of the most important Dutch cartographers of the Golden Age. It shows Europe, including Iceland and parts of Greenland as well as the mythical island of “Frisland,” which was still believed to be real at the time.
