Japanese Iron Sukashi Tsuba with Hannya and Okina Mask Motifs

This is an exquisitely crafted Japanese iron tsuba (sword guard) with openwork.
The entire tsuba is adorned with human face motifs reminiscent of Hannya and Okina masks, creating a unique design that evokes Noh theater and traditional Japanese culture. The openwork structure skillfully expresses both lightness and three-dimensionality.

Each face is rendered in a different metal with a reddish-brown hue, creating a beautiful contrast with the dark iron base and exuding an elegant, antique atmosphere. Rope-like designs and fan-shaped decorations are also visible, demonstrating meticulous craftsmanship down to the smallest detail.
