These are two historically significant Scottish £1 banknotes, from different banks and eras, representing the modern Scottish banknote system: Banknote above: 1927 The Royal Bank of Scotland £1 Release information: Issued in Edinburgh on February 2, 1927, serial number NºA 668309 Design Details: 1. At the top is a portrait of King George I of England, flanked by the unicorn and lion coats of arms representing Britain, and below is the full name of the bank. 2. On the left and right sides are classical images symbolizing Britannia' and 'Plenty', the bank's classic design used from 1832 to 1968. 3. The inscription on the banknote: "Pursuant to Act of Parliament," indicating its issuance based on a UK Parliamentary act, promising "Pay £1 upon sight," which was a typical expression of Scottish private bank banknotes at the time. Banknote below: 1939 Commercial Bank of Scotland Limited £1 Release information: Issued in Edinburgh on May 4, 1939, serial number P/24 157987 Design Details: 1. The central portrait is David Dale, a renowned Scottish philanthropist and entrepreneur, founder of the New Lanark Mill and a pioneer of early social welfare reforms. 2. The top features the full name of the bank, while the lower section depicts early business and social life in Scotland, with the note also bearing the promise "Pay £1 upon sight." 3. This banknote was printed by the long-established British banknote printing company Waterlow & Sons Limited and was the currency of the Scottish Commercial Bank in the first half of the 20th century.
