Val Saint Lambert - René Delvenne - Jarra - Vidro
Designed in 1932 by René Delvenne for the renowned Belgian crystal manufacturer Val Saint Lambert, this exceptionally rare “Girofla” vase is a refined and highly collectible example of early European Art Deco glass design. Combining sculptural elegance with technical sophistication, the piece embodies the distinctive aesthetic language that established Val Saint Lambert among the most celebrated glassmakers of the twentieth century.
The vase is executed in richly toned smoked molded glass, a finish prized for its subtle depth and atmospheric luminosity. Its surface is adorned with stylized foliate motifs and flowing curvilinear forms, masterfully integrated into the structure of the vessel to create a harmonious interplay of light, shadow, and texture. The refined geometry and rhythmic ornamentation are characteristic of Delvenne’s most accomplished decorative works from the interwar period.
Signed with René Delvenne’s monogram, the vase represents not only an important design collaboration with Val Saint Lambert, but also a rare surviving example of the company’s high artistic production during the golden age of Art Deco. Pieces of this model are seldom encountered on the market, particularly in such well-preserved condition, making it especially desirable for collectors of important European decorative arts and twentieth-century glass.
Elegant yet architecturally bold, the “Girofla” vase stands as a remarkable testament to the innovation, craftsmanship, and artistic ambition that defined Belgian Art Deco design in the 1930s.
