Medieval Islamic Signet Ring – Islamic Culture – 10th to 13th Century AD
A bronze signet ring with an oval bezel engraved in relief with stylized Kufic-inspired characters arranged in a balanced epigraphic composition. Rings of this type were widely used throughout the medieval Islamic world as personal seals, status symbols, and devotional objects. The abstract calligraphic layout reflects the Islamic preference for epigraphic ornamentation, transforming script into a decorative and symbolic artistic element.
The ring features a slender hoop and a raised oval bezel with a well-defined engraved design. A stable green patina covers much of the surface, accompanied by minor mineral deposits and age-related wear that enhance its archaeological appearance. The preserved inscription-like motif remains the focal point of the piece, making it an attractive example of medieval Islamic bronze craftsmanship.
