Era Viking Bronze Broche Omega (Sem preço de reserva)

Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid. A Viking bronze Omega-type brooch with circular openwork frame and preserved central pin. The brooch has a rounded omega-shaped hoop with inward-curving curled terminals, while the pin passes horizontally through the frame and tapers to a pointed end. -> The simple but functional construction is typical of practical Viking-period dress fittings. Brooches of this type were used to fasten garments, cloaks, or textile layers, while also serving as visible personal ornaments. Size: ± 45,3 mm Pin: ± 48,3 mm Condition: Good and solid condition. The frame and pin are preserved. Minor surface irregularities and signs of wear consistent with age and use. Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for all lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher. -> Omega brooches are named after their resemblance to the Greek letter omega. Their open ring form allowed the pin to secure textile by passing through the fabric and resting across the frame. -> During the Viking Age, brooches were important dress accessories used to fasten clothing such as cloaks, tunics, and outer garments. Bronze examples were widely used and combined practical function with simple decorative form. -> The survival of the pin together with the frame is especially useful, as it shows how the brooch originally functioned as a complete garment fastener.
