Bacia - Cobre - Cratera do final do século XVIII

Raffinato e imponente vaso decorativo a cratere in lastra di rame pesante, superba testimonianza dell'arte orafa lombarda a cavallo tra il Sei e il Settecento.

Il corpo del vaso è interamente decorato a forte sbalzo e finemente cesellato con ricchi motivi naturalistici tardo-barocchi, tra cui spiccano ghirlande di fiori (rose e margherite), foglie d'acanto e fitti baccellati sulla svasatura del collo. Gli elementi floreali non sono ripetitivi: ogni petalo ha un'incisività propria, ottenuta battendo il rame con punzoni finissimi. Il forte rilievo crea un gioco di ombre profonde che dà movimento all'intero vaso.

La sezione centrale è dominata da espressivi mascheroni leonini in altorilievo.

L'oggetto presenta due distinti scudi araldici ovali inseriti entro cartigli geometrici, caratteristica che ne attesta la committenza originale come importante dono celebrativo per un matrimonio aristocratico.
- Primo stemma: Banda diagonale accompagnata da un elmo crestato di profilo e un albero radicato.
- Secondo stemma: Banda ondata accompagnata da un veliero navigante, un giglio araldico e stelle comete.

La struttura poggia solidamente su piedini a foggia di volute fogliacee, realizzati a fusione indipendente e cesellati.

Refined and imposing decorative crater-shaped vase made of heavy sheet copper, a superb example of Lombard goldsmithing from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The body of the vase is entirely decorated with bold repoussé work and fine chasing, featuring rich Late Baroque naturalistic motifs; highlights include floral garlands (roses and daisies), acanthus leaves, and dense gadrooning along the flared neck. The floral elements are not repetitive; each petal possesses a distinct definition, achieved by hammering the copper with extremely fine punches. The high relief creates a play of deep shadows giving a sense of movement to the entire vessel.

The central section is dominated by expressive lion-head masks in high relief.

The object features two distinct oval heraldic shields set within geometric cartouches, a detail indicating it was originally commissioned as a significant celebratory gift for an aristocratic wedding.
- First coat of arms: a diagonal band accompanied by a crested helmet (in profile) and a rooted tree.
- Second coat of arms: a wavy band accompanied by a sailing ship, a heraldic fleur-de-lis, and comets.

The structure rests firmly on feet shaped like foliate scrolls, which were cast separately and chased.
