Developed from the original Calypso-Phot designed in collaboration with Jacques Cousteau, the Nikonos II is rated for use down to 50 m underwater and is equally usable on land. Paired with the standard W-Nikkor 35mm f/2.5 — a 6-element Gauss-type lens computed for both above-water and underwater optical performance — this is the camera that defined underwater photography for two decades and is now a highly collectible piece of camera history.
