Born in Bordeaux, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris alongside Henri Matisse, with whom he formed a lifelong friendship. Marquet gained recognition for his luminous depictions of urban landscapes, ports, and rivers, particularly views of Paris and the Seine.
