A rare and highly atmospheric Soviet scientific measuring instrument set: an original ARI-49 handheld induction anemometer, produced in the USSR in 1955.

The ARI-49 was designed for measuring wind speed and air flow and was used as a practical professional instrument in meteorological, technical, industrial and field conditions. It is a distinctive example of mid-20th century Soviet scientific equipment, combining functional engineering with a strong utilitarian industrial design.

This lot is especially attractive because it is preserved not simply as a single instrument, but as a complete original set. It includes the anemometer itself, its original wooden transport/storage case, original instruction manual, original technical certificate/attestation document and the accessories shown in the photographs.

The documents and markings refer to GOST 7193-54, the Soviet technical standard for this type of instrument. The included certificate/attestation document is dated June 1955, and the instruction manual is also dated 1955.

The anemometer has a very characteristic Soviet technical appearance: rotating wind cups, cylindrical handle attachment, visible measuring scale, metal housing and the model marking “АРИ-49” on the instrument. The scale and markings are clearly visible, giving the object a strong display value.

The original wooden case is an important part of the lot. It has a utilitarian Soviet industrial look, with aged green paint, metal fittings, carrying strap, internal compartments and the original maker’s plate on the front. The plate reads Moscow Hydromet Instruments Factory / Московский завод гидрометприборов and also shows the Soviet emblematic factory design.

Together with the case and documents, this is a very complete and display-worthy Cold War-era Soviet scientific set.

Condition

Good vintage condition, with natural signs of age, use and long-term storage.

The instrument has age-related patina, small marks and light wear consistent with an original technical object from the 1950s. The rotating cups are present, the scale is visible and the instrument has a strong authentic appearance.

The wooden case shows visible wear to the paint, edges, corners, metal fittings and carrying strap. These traces of age add to the authentic Soviet industrial character of the set.

The paper documents show folds, yellowing, small marks and handling wear due to age, but remain an important and highly valuable part of the set.
