This fascinating work represents the culmination of the investigations of the celebrated Jesuit scholar Athanasius Kircher into the hidden forces governing the universe. Far from limiting himself to traditional physics, Kircher expanded the concept of magnetism into a unified theory of nature. The treatise is divided into the study of a triple cosmic magnet operating at three different levels of the natural world.

The book is formally dedicated to Alexander Fabianus (Alejandro Fabiano), described on the title page as:
“Ad Inclytum, & Eximium Virum Alexandrum Fabianum, Novi Orbis Indigenam.”
The historical detail is particularly interesting: Kircher refers to him with the poetic title “Novi Orbis Indigenam” (“native of the New World”). Alexander Fabianus was a scholar and patron with American roots who maintained a close correspondence with Kircher.
