Large Collection of 12 Kuba (Shoowa) Raffia Textiles with Ethnographic Figure – Kasai Region, Democratic Republic of the Congo
Exceptional collection comprising twelve handwoven and embroidered Kuba raffia textiles together with a small ethnographic figure, originating from the Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The Kuba people are internationally renowned for their sophisticated textile traditions. Produced from hand-processed raffia palm fibers, these cloths display an extraordinary variety of geometric patterns, abstract motifs, appliqué work, and embroidery. Each textile is unique and reflects the artistic creativity and cultural heritage of the Kuba Kingdom.
The collection includes several large decorative panels with dimensions reaching approximately 80 cm, making them highly suitable for display, framing, interior decoration, or inclusion in an ethnographic collection.
Condition
Overall good ethnographic condition. Expected signs of age, handling, minor wear, stains, folds and irregularities are present. Such characteristics are typical for authentic traditional raffia textiles and should be regarded as part of their historical and cultural significance. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
An attractive and increasingly collectible group of Central African textiles, representing one of Africa’s most influential and recognizable artistic traditions.
The lot will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking and insurance where available.
