"Le Bain de Roses" unfolds inside a traditional Japanese bathhouse on a quiet morning, where a European woman with long dark wavy hair sits inside a round wooden ofuro tub, warm water reaching her waist, pink rose petals floating on the still surface around her. She tilts her head back with her eyes closed, her lips slightly parted, her expression suspended somewhere between surrender and serenity. It is the face of a woman who controls everything in her life and has chosen, for this one moment, to control nothing at all.
Standing beside the tub, a young Japanese woman holds a wooden hishaku ladle, pouring warm water gently over the traveller's bare shoulder while her other hand rests against her skin with quiet tenderness. Her black hair is pinned up in a loose bun, wet strands clinging to her neck and collarbones. She looks down at her task with the focused care of someone performing a ritual she knows by heart, yet giving it to this particular woman as though it were the first time.
Steam rises between them and dissolves into the soft light that fills the room through a wide window, where tall bamboo sways gently outside. A bamboo blind hangs partially rolled above the frame. On a low wooden shelf beside the tub, glass bottles of bathing oil, a wooden bowl and a folded white towel rest in quiet order. On the opposite side, fresh pink roses bloom from a simple ceramic vase, the only element that does not belong to the traditional Japanese setting. Someone placed them there. Perhaps the guest asked. Perhaps the host understood without being asked. The roses are the silent bridge between two worlds: European flowers in a Japanese bath, a small gesture that says everything words in different languages cannot.
The wooden tub, the aged timber walls, the soft bamboo light, the petals on the water, everything in the room belongs to a ritual that has been performed for centuries. But the woman inside the tub is not from here. She has travelled alone to a country that is not hers, entered a space she did not know, and closed her eyes in the hands of a stranger. The vulnerability is not weakness. It is the quiet courage of someone who has decided to be cared for, just this once, by someone who expects nothing in return.
The artwork explores themes such as vulnerability as an act of courage, the intimacy between strangers, the ritual of bathing as a universal language of care, the meeting of European and Japanese sensibilities, the beauty of surrender in unfamiliar places, and the quiet poetry of roses placed in water by hands that understood without being told.
T. Pimenta is a Portuguese artist whose commitment to creating visually striking artworks seeks to develop pieces capable of establishing visual presence and emotional connection with viewers and collectors.
The creative process begins with an initial conceptual construction, where the central narrative and emotional direction of the composition are defined. Subsequently, the artistic vision is developed through Adobe tools, digital construction processes and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), adding depth, texture, light and structural refinement.
His approach combines traditional artistic sensibilities with contemporary digital techniques, allowing the exploration of different visual languages and the continuous expansion of creative possibilities.
Each artwork additionally receives a manual finishing intervention through an individual hand-applied artistic varnishing process, designed to reinforce luminosity, visual depth and material presence.
