Artwork Details Artist: Suzanne Thienpont (Belgian) Title: Still Life (untitled) Year: 1948 Medium: Oil on canvas Subject: Still life with jug, fruit, and candlesticks Signature: Signed lower left Framing: Presented in a substantial period frame Description This is a wonderfully characterful still life showing Thienpont’s confident use of texture and colour. The surface is built with expressive, layered brushwork typical of mid-century European painting, giving the piece depth and a richly tactile quality. The muted greys and browns of the backdrop contrast beautifully with the subtle reds, blues, and greens of the central jug and fruit. The painting is dated 1948, placing it in the early post-war period when many Belgian artists explored more emotional and intuitive forms of expression. The frame, with its aged patina and classic moulding, complements the artwork’s period charm and displays beautifully. A striking and original work by a noteworthy Belgian artist—ideal for collectors of European modernist still lifes, mid-century painting, or those seeking a unique decorative statement. A fine, authentic 1948 oil painting with strong presence and timeless appeal.
