Overview:
Up for auction is a magnificent piece of Scotch whisky history: a highly collectible, vintage bottling of Oban 12 Year Old Unblended Highland Malt Scotch Whisky. Produced at the iconic Oban Distillery and bottled by John Hopkins & Co. Ltd., this specific release dates back to the late 1970s / early 1980s.
This lot represents a rare opportunity for serious collectors to acquire the legendary "pear-shaped" faceted decanter bottle, complete with its original presentation box and the original alternative glass stopper.
Key Historical & Design Details:
• The "Unblended" Era: Bottled long before the modern "Single Malt" terminology became standardized, this bottle features the historic "Unblended" designation, making it a true capsule of 20th-century whisky heritage.
• Iconic Bottle Design: Housed in the beautiful, sought-after faceted pear bottle design that epitomizes premium old-style whisky presentation.
• The Glass Stopper: This lot uniquely includes the additional ground glass stopper, designed to replace the metal screw cap once opened, converting the bottle into an elegant table decanter.
Condition Report (Please refer to photos):
• Bottle: Impeccable condition. The glass is clear with no chips or cracks.
• Liquid Level (Fill Level): Excellent fill level, well into the upper neck/shoulder area, which is remarkable for a bottle of this age.
• Labels & Seal: The main triangular label, neck label, and tax strip/seal are fully intact, showing only very minor, natural signs of aging consistent with its vintage status. All text remains sharp and perfectly legible.
• Box: Original cardboard box included. It is structurally sound and retains vivid colors, showing only light shelf wear on the edges due to decades of careful storage.
Specifications:
• Bottle size: 75 cl
• Strength: 43% Vol. / 43° G.L.
• Country: Scotland (Highlands)
This is a stunning, investment-grade bottle that makes a perfect addition to any high-end whisky collection or a spectacular gift for a true connoisseur.
