Born in Messenia, he studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1933–38) under Kefallinos and continued his training in Rome, Florence, and Paris. Throughout his career he: Received the Engraving Prize (1938) and State Medal of Engraving (1940) Created iconic works depicting key moments of 20th-century Greek history, including the resistance during WWII Became a member of EAM and EPON during the Occupation Lived in self-exile during the dictatorship (1967–1974) Exhibited extensively in Greece and abroad (USA, Soviet Union, France, Italy, Japan) Represented Greece at the 1952 Venice Biennale Designed Cypriot postage stamps from 1962 to 1985 He remains a central figure in Greek engraving, celebrated for his depictions of national struggles, rural life, and the beauty of the Greek landscape. About the Artist: A. Tassos (Anastasios Alevizos, 1914–1985)

A. Tassos is one of the most important engravers and printmakers in modern Greek art. Born in Messenia, he studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1933–38) under Kefallinos and continued his training in Rome, Florence, and Paris.
