Armário - Caixa de Degraus de Utrecht - Madeira de lei e ébano

Fine Utrecht Arched Cabinet. Dutch Renaissance. 1610 – 1640. The arches in the doors are derived from triumphal arches as they appear in classical architecture. Trade had made the Dutch population the richest population in the world at this time. And through the fact that we had a republic where the church and the king did not receive the largest share of the money but the entrepreneurs. Dispaying their wealth in their houses and houshold. Giving others more well payed work. This was a revolutionary economic circumstance. The entire country became rich and powerful instead of a small elite. So those arches were triumphal arches of proud citizens. And deliberately intended as a symbol. Beautiful and balanced distribution of blond oak and black ebony. In the hood you see an ornament carved in the shape of drops - this is called grunting. Typically also taken over from the Italian Renaissance. An early type, without drawers under - 2nd quarter to mid 17th century. Beautiful quarter-sawn oak in the panels of the doors. Wrought iron 'short' hinges - original too. See also the beautiful panels in the sides. With refined profiling. The cabinet stands on original blackened ball feet. Inside a neat and beautiful interior with shelves and a drawer. Everything also in good quarter-sawn oak. Nice small size: 180 cm. high. The hood can be removed for transport. H x W x D 180 x 160 x 60 Cm. high/wide/deep 6 ft x 5ft 4” x 2ft
