A seemingly scarce book (only one or couple copies are available online at time of listing). This is first edition of the psychical researcher and anthropologist's study of occult history, ranging from ancient Egypt to Greece and Rome. From 1922 to 1927, Dingwall (1890-1986) was research officer at the Society for Physical Research, which involved investigating the veracity of mediums and spiritualist phenomena. He used his skills as a member of the Magic Circle to expose several potential frauds along the way, including Eusapia Palladino and Eva Carrière. Published by Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co., Ltd, London, 1930. Publisher’s original small octavo, brown boards, red back strip with paper label printed in red, Titles in red to front cover. Book Dimensions: 16 x 11 cm and Number of Pages: 124 Condition Firm and well-bound copy. External covers in nice shape, with light wear to corners and spine ends. Internally; the book in very good condition. Old inscription with neat ink on first blank front free endpaper page. Pages are clean with some underlining text and annotations to the margin of few pages and on inside rear cover page. Inner hinges are very good, and pages are tightly held at gutters (Please see pictures).
