Alle Propheten nach Hebraischer sprach verteutscht / Baruch der Prophet. Die Historie Susannah. Die Historie Bel zu Babel. Alles newlich auß der Bybli verteutscht. - [Ludwig Hätzer (translation)] / [Hans Denck (translation)]
Wormbs [Worms]: Peter Schöfern [Peter Schöffer der Jüngere], 1528. 307, [22] leaves. 15cm x 9.5cm. Newer brown half leather binding with marbled boards, 4 raised bands on the spine, and red edges. Early edition of first complete German translation by the Anabaptists Ludwig Hätzer and Hans Denck of the Old Testament prophetic books from the original Hebrew during the Reformation. It was published several years before the equivalent translations by Martin Luther, or the Zurich Bible were completed. Comes with an engraved title page, several engraved initials throughout and an engraved colophon vignette. There is a separate section of 22 unnumbered leaves titled “Baruch der Prophet.” At the end, that is also dated from 1528.
Rubbing, bumping, and wear to the boards and spine. The spine is fraying on both hinges at both ends, and there are some pieces of the leather missing at the top of the spine, Remnants of a stamp on the title page. Two small holes and a small tear in the title page. There is a small piece of the corner torn off on the right side of leaf 162, not affecting the text. The binding is quite solid, though the spine is showing through on leaf 193. The title page to the section in the back (“Baruch der Prophet.”) has a tear at the top left and a mended tear on the outer edge, both not affecting the content. There are two small holes in the pages of the “Barch der Prophet” section. Browning, spotting, and some water staining at the bottom part of the pages throughout. The text is clear, and the paper is crips. Overall, and considering its age, a handsome copy in very good condition.
