Zippo - Brichetă - Alamă

This is a vintage Zippo, Pat. 2517191 bottom stamp with the classic italic script logo, and the original matching steel insert featuring the famous "MADE IN ZIPPO U.S.A." markings. Condition: See pictures, as they are part of the description. DISCLAIMER: there is NO way to ensure that the engraving of James Davis is real. What is known of James Davis is provided in official US Navy provenance (see photo´s). James Adviswas a Machinist´s Mate on the USS Berkeley. Two official documents directly reference James Davis: Document 1: The USS Berkeley Deck Log (digitally available) This original logbook entry from the USS Berkeley, dated September 20, 1965, captures a remarkable, human moment in naval life: "0745 UA - Mustered the crew at quarters; the following absentee was noted: Davis, J.Q., 683 61 66, MM3, USN, UA (Unauthorized Absence) since 0715 this date." The logbook further notes that he did return to the ship later that day, providing a rare and personal snapshot of his time in service. Document 2: The BUPERS service change report (digitally available) This formal naval personnel report (dated April 1967) confirms his career progression and aligns perfectly with the engravings on the Zippo. It lists his unit and status. Unit: USS DDG 15 (USS Berkeley). Status change: Code 942, "Rel inact duty," confirming his formal release from active duty in 1967. The period of 1966-1967 marks one of the most active phases of the Vietnam war. During this time, the USS Berkeley was heavily involved in naval gunfire support and plane guard missions off the coast of Vietnam. As a MM2, James Davis was responsible for the critical steam propulsion systems that powered the ship through these combat operations. Lighter works (sparks!) but is empty now due to safe transportation.
