James Rizzi (1950–2011) was an American pop artist best known for his colorful, optimistic artworks featuring lively cityscapes, smiling characters, and playful everyday scenes. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he studied at the University of Florida, where he developed his distinctive style combining pop art with three-dimensional graphic techniques.
Rizzi was influenced by leading figures of the Pop Art movement, especially Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Keith Haring, whose bold colors, graphic lines, and focus on everyday life helped shape his artistic language. Like these artists, Rizzi aimed to make art accessible, joyful, and understandable to a wide audience.
He became internationally known for his unique 3D constructions, created by layering multiple prints to produce a sculptural effect. His works celebrate urban life, love, music, and humor, often inspired by the vibrant atmosphere of New York City.
During his career, Rizzi collaborated with numerous international brands and exhibited worldwide, becoming one of the most recognizable contemporary pop artists. His works remain highly collectible and popular among art collectors today.
