Antique Chinese Cloisonné Opium Canister With Cover – Hundred Antiques Decoration – Late Qing / Republic Period
A beautiful Chinese cloisonné enamel opium canister dating from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic period (circa 1880–1930).
The cylindrical body and cover are decorated in vibrant coloured enamels on a turquoise ground with an attractive Bo Gu (Hundred Antiques) design. The decoration features scholar’s objects including vases, scrolls, ritual vessels, flowers and auspicious symbols, representing wealth, learning and refinement. The intricate brass wirework and colourful enamels are characteristic of high-quality Chinese cloisonné craftsmanship.
Originally intended for storing opium paste, tobacco or other valuable substances, this type of covered container has become highly collectible among enthusiasts of Chinese decorative arts.
