Miguel Rio Branco - Silent Book (FRESH CONDITION) - 1997

VERY IMPORTANT LATIN AMERICAN PHOTOBOOK by Brazilian Magnum photographer Miguel Rio Branco, painter, and filmmaker (director and cinematographer): - Martin Parr, Gerry Badger, The Photobook, volume 2, page 118 - Horacio Fernández, The Latin American Photobook, page 194-197 VERY RARE AND VERY SOUGHT-AFTER FIRST PRINTING (not to mix with the reprint from 2012). FRESH CONDITION. You visit the SUPER POPULAR SINGLE-SELLER-AUCTION by 5Uhr30.com (Ecki Heuser, Cologne, Germany) - with INTERNATIONAL PHOTOBOOKS from my PRIVATE COLLECTION and from RECENT ACQUISITATIONS. The work by Miguel Rio Branco, born 1946, has focused on Brazil and included photojournalism, and social and political criticism. Miguel Rio Branco was an Associate Member of Magnum Photos. His photographs are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. "The book begins with an enigmatic image of an ominous, half-open doorway, followed by one of a glittering knife, and we are soon at the heart of the matter - the dark, sweaty Santa Rosa gym. The recurring metaphors revolve around violence, death, religion, poverty. His images of the gym, and also of a bullfight, suggest that the sacramental violence offered in sport is not, as some suggest, an incitement to violence outside, but a way to mitigate or break the cycle. The stage-managed violence of the boxing ring or bull-fighting arena is a release for the frustration of the poor and for the lucky few who might have the talent for it - an escape." - Gerry Badger - 5Uhr30.com guarantees detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% protection, 100% insurance and combined shipping worldwide. Cosac Naify, Sao Paulo. 1997. First edition, first printing.
