Ottoman divit penar - Alamă - Turcia - Perioada Finală Otomană
An attractive antique 19th century Ottoman brass divit, the traditional portable writing set used by scribes, scholars, merchants, and officials. The piece consists of a long rectangular pen case for storing a reed pen (qalam) together with an integrated lidded inkwell featuring a distinctive shell-shaped hinged cover.
The divit is decorated throughout with finely engraved floral and foliate ornamentation bordered by geometric bands. The decorative style and construction suggest a provincial Ottoman workshop, most likely from Bosnia-Herzegovina or Anatolia, dating most likely to the second half of the 19th century.
A fine example of traditional Islamic writing culture and an appealing collectible for enthusiasts of Ottoman art, Islamic antiques, or historical writing instruments.
Good antique condition with age-related wear and patina consistent with use and age.
Original brass patina.
Engraved decoration remains clearly visible.
Hinged shell-shaped lid present.
Minor wear, scratches, and oxidation commensurate with age.
Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
