The Canon Canonet QL17 is a fixed-lens 35mm rangefinder introduced in March 1965 as the top of Canon's popular Canonet line. It pairs a fast 45mm f/1.7 lens with a coupled rangefinder, CdS-metered shutter-priority automation and Canon's QL Quick Loading film system, the "17" referring to the maximum aperture. Built in Japan, the Canonet series sold in enormous numbers and helped define the affordable fast-lens rangefinder. The later G-III QL17 of 1972 carried a more compact 40mm f/1.7 lens and continued the family into the early 1980s.
