The Minolta SR-1, launched in 1959, was the more affordable companion to the SR-2 and became the model that established Minolta as a serious maker of 35mm single-lens reflex cameras. Fully mechanical and battery-free, it uses the SR bayonet mount that would carry Minolta's manual-focus system for the next three decades, and its instant-return mirror and automatic diaphragm were advanced features for a camera at its price. Successive versions refined the top shutter speed and finder, and the model stayed in production well into the 1960s. Its straightforward mechanics and the optical reputation of the Rokkor lenses make it a dependable choice for film photographers today.
