Enameled numbers and smaller signs were riveted onto the enameled, inverted "T"-shaped base sign. The topmost "Z" sign indicates the water shut-off. The sign below it is the distance measured perpendicular to the plane of the sign, and below it is the distance measured to the right and left. The small sign indicated the pipe diameter of the shut-off. A fine example of interchangeable industrial design. These signs were replaced in the 1960s, first with a different type of enamel, later with plastic, but they can still be seen occasionally on a building (in Budapest).
