The escutcheon is flanked by lion supporters standing rampantand surmounted by a marquis’s coronet. According to family tradition, the casket was presented as a wedding gift to Claude-Georges de Selve (1815–1894), Marquis de Selve / d’Audeville, who married Marie Amelot de Chaillouin Paris on 23 April 1845. Claude-Georges de Selve served as mayor of Cerny (1851–1868) and was owner of the Château de Villiers, actively involved in local affairs during the mid-19th century. His name appears frequently in period publications, including the Bulletin de la Société impériale zoologique d’acclimatation (1867, p. 76). The arms — azure with two wavy argent bars — correspond to those recorded in heraldic sources for the de Selve lineage; the presence of the coronet and lion supporters further attests to the family’s aristocratic status.
