Egiptul Antic, Perioada Târzie Faianță albastră Pandantiv al unei divinități (Fără preț de rezervă)
An ancient Egyptian mould-pressed pendant made of blue faience depicting a deity. The pendant depicts a figure standing with his legs apart facing the right. It seems to be holding a spectre in his left hand. This may be a depiction of the falcon-headed Horus holding Was sceptre. There is a perforated loop at the top of the necklace for suspension. Signs of ageing such as discolouration and wear to the pendant. Earthy encrustation and pitting to the surface.
The Egyptians wore amulets alongside other pieces of jewellery. They were decorative, but also served a practical purpose, being considered to bestow power and protection upon the wearer. Many of the amulets have been found inside the wrappings of mummies, as they were used to prepare the deceased for the afterlife. Fist amulets were a particular feature of the 1st Intermediate Period, however examples have been found from New Kingdom and Late Period burials. The amulet was meant to bestow the power of dexterity and movement upon the wearer.
Measurements: L 1.3cm X W 0.5cm
Provenance: Ex. early 20th century UK collection
