The lid is adorned with an elaborate sixteen-petal chrysanthemum crest (菊花紋), rendered with precision and surrounded by a shimmering band of dense nashiji (梨地) gold powder. This combination of chrysanthemum and nashiji gives the lid a radiant, almost ceremonial presence. Around the sides, repeating Gosan-no-Kiri (五三桐) paulownia crests appear in rich gold maki-e, a motif historically associated with imperial and governmental emblems, adding formality and prestige to the piece.
