Bird paintings: I am interested in painting as the way old masters Rembrandt and Hals painted, with striking brushstrokes, precisely and confidently, to show clarity and vibrancy, not in painting every feather, bird’s feet or twig exactly. Suggestion reflects much more the liveliness of a bird. I paint the essence, nothing more. Landscapes / bird paintings: I like walking in nature, along flower- and tulipfields, along the North Sea coast, in polders, heathlands and forests in the Netherlands, The Alps, Dolomites, Pyrenees and rugged mountainous regions in Scandinavia.
