Hafiz Mustafa bin Ali - Qur'an - 1840

A leaf from an Arabic Qur'an, written in neat black Naskh script contained within a gold and red frame. The header for the Chapter is written in red thuluth script. A detailed and attractive marginal device marks the beginning of a new chapter. It contains the header and verses 1-6 of the Medinian Chapter 58, Al-Mujadilah (The Pleading Woman). These verses primarily establish a new Islamic law that prohibits the pre-Islamic practice of zihar, which was a socially acceptable way for a husband to divorce his wife by declaring her to be his mother or another forbidden blood relative, and specifies the expiation for it - he act of making amends or reparation for guilt or wrongdoing. The verses also serve as a warning to those who defy Allah and His Messenger. It is dated AH1256 (AD1840/1) and signed by Hafiz Darwish Mustafa b 'Ali', and rescued from an early, but damaged, Qur'an. It is in good condition, showing some devotional use and a little ink wash staining to the bottom of the folio. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
