Eisaku Notomi - Chawan - Porslin - Hagi-yaki
Item description
This is an impressive Hagi ware ceremonial bowl (Meizara) created by Eisaku Notomi (納富英作) of Shigenobu Pottery (重信陶房). The piece is finished in a striking black glaze, accented with natural ash effects and kiln-fired textures that emerge organically through the firing process.
The bold contrast between the deep, lustrous black surface and the subtle, cloud-like patterns reflects the quiet power and aesthetic depth characteristic of high-quality Hagi ware. The form is well-balanced, with a gently rounded body and a carefully finished foot, revealing the warm clay beneath the glaze.
The bowl is accompanied by its original wooden storage box (tomobako), bearing the inscription “Hagi Meizara”, the artist’s handwritten signature “Eisaku”, and his red seal. Eisaku Notomi comes from the prestigious Notomi family, a lineage deeply rooted in the traditional heritage of Hagi ceramics. This work represents both functional beauty and collectible value, suitable for tea practice or as a refined display piece.
