Super charming wooden box with a black cat motif and gorgeous geometric borders. This antique French box is by Le Chat, which was a sub-brand of the Hoffman company that made rice based starch. In the 1920s/1930s it would have been used as a display/advertising unit for their product. The writing on the sides reads Amidon au Chat - Garanti Pur Riz which translates to Cat Starch - Guaranteed Pure Rice. Great for practical use or as a display piece in a multitude of interior styles. Over time the box gained some patination and wear; it has wood worm holes, a few cracks and other marks of usage. Still very decorative and usable.
