This first limited edition of "E. M. Lilien: Sein Werk" is a cornerstone of both Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) and 20th-century Jewish cultural history. Published in 1903, it features a significant early introduction by Stefan Zweig, who was a close friend of Lilien. This rare monograph is the definitive anthology of the early works of Ephraim Moses Lilien (1874–1925), often cited as the "First Zionist Artist." Lilien was a master of the Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) style, using bold black-and-white contrasts and sinuous lines to reinvent traditional Jewish motifs for the modern age. Condition : Overall, the interior of the book is remarkably well-preserved, featuring crisp and clean illustrations, while the external binding shows significant wear consistent with its age and the weight of the volume. One text page (the introduction) shows heavy foxing/spotting and appears to have been tipped-in or repaired with adhesive tape, which has caused some translucent staining.
