A portable instrument steriliser by Down Brothers, London, designed for surgical use—complete with the original wire tray and brass spirit burner and the makers name plate clearly placed on the front. The steriliser sits on two foldable legs which can be locked open or closed. The steriliser is made from chromed, what appears to be, copper. The catalogue page included here is from the Down Brothers catalogue dated 1910, sterilisation was first introduced in 1894 so this would have been an important advancement at the time.
