Unknown - Qur'an - North India - 1830

A large form leaf from a Qur'an scribed in North India dated 1830. The leaf contains the final verses of the Meccan Chapter 41, Fussilat ('Verses' Perfectly explained) together with the header of the following Meccan chapter, Ash-Shura (Consultation). They challenge the Prophet Muhammad to ask those who deny the Quran, "who can be more astray than one who is in far-off opposition?" and declare that God will show them signs in the universe and within themselves until the truth of the Quran is clear. They are meant to be a challenge to those who reject the message of the Quran, prompting them to reflect on the evidence provided by the natural world and human existence itself, which ultimately points to the Creator. The leaf consists of lines of scripture in black nashki, with interlinear translation in Persian in red ink. The Chapter heading is in white thuluth on celestial blue surrounded by a simple red frame line. There is also a decorative marginal verse marking in gold upper right, below which is commentary in red and below that in black. The margins are ruled in gold and colour lines. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
