ASH Art

I am Hanna a Polish figurative painter born in Wrocław and currently based in Germany. My work begins with the idea that reality is never perceived neutrally. Through saturated, non-naturalistic colour, fractured planes and altered spatial relationships, I explore how perception, memory and emotion shape the world we experience. The human figure remains central to my practice. My characters inhabit landscapes and interiors that appear familiar yet resist ordinary spatial logic. Colours move between bodies and their surroundings, perspectives become unstable, and the boundary between external reality and inner experience begins to dissolve. Landscapes are not simply backgrounds in my paintings; they act as psychological spaces and carry their own emotional tension. My visual language has been shaped by Fauvism and Expressionism, with elements of Cubism serving as a more distant source of inspiration. Rather than following a specific historical movement, I use these influences to build a contemporary and personal form of figurative painting. Strong colour, expressive brushwork and spatial disruption allow me to transform recognizable scenes without abandoning the presence and physicality of the figure. Painting has been part of my life since childhood. Today, I pursue it with professional commitment and a clearly defined artistic direction. My education includes the Mastery Program at the Milan Art Institute, as well as further training with internationally recognized artists including Kristy Gordon and Ciara Gilmore. I also hold a doctorate in physics. This background quietly informs my sensitivity to structure, hidden forces and relationships that cannot be seen directly. In my paintings, however, these ideas are expressed through colour, gesture and the altered logic of space rather than through scientific imagery. My works may be signed Hanna or ASH. Both signatures belong to the same artistic practice and the same visual language. ASH represents its most intuitive and instinct-driven dimension — a space in which gesture precedes logic and visual tension takes priority over conventional narrative. At the heart of my work is an attempt to make visible the instability hidden within ordinary perception: the moment when a familiar world remains recognizable but can no longer be understood in only one way. — Hanna / ASH
