Byôbu (Faltbildschirm) - Lackiertes Holz, Goldblatt, Maulbeerpapier - Kanô Eigaku - Japan - Taishō Zeit (1912-1926)

An enticing tall six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) in the style of Kanô Eigaku 狩野永岳, featuring a Kyô-Kanô School painting painting of white herons 白鷺 (shirasagi) near a large weeping willow 柳 (yanagi). A massive trunk curves gracefully along the left side of the screen, its branches and twigs sprouting with delicate early buds. On one of the broad curves, a pair of white herons are perched, while from far ahead, another pair of herons approach in flight. he entire scene is enveloped in drifting clouds of gold-leaf speckles, evoking a tranquil, mist-laden atmosphere. Signed in the lower right corner ‘Kanô Nuinosuke Eigaku’ 狩野縫殿助永岳, accompanied by two name seals in red, one reading: ‘Kôrei shi’ 公嶺氏. This signature and seal was used by the artist Kanô Eigaku, but this screen is not a work from his hand. This is an attributive signature paying homage to the celebrated artist, not an original work by his hand. Executed in black ink 墨 (sumi) on mulberry paper, delicately heightened with gold-leaf accents. Encased in a black lacquered wooden frame. Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912–1926) Dimensions: Total width 377.2 cm (2 × 64.2 cm, 4 × 62.2 cm); Height 172.2 cm Considering its age, the screen is in very good condition, with some traces of wear consistent with age on both sides, including a water stain near the bottom of the rightmost hinge. Please refer to the photos for a detailed condition reference. This folding screen is ideal for mounting flat on a wall and displaying as a single, elegant work of art. When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity. Please note: Due to the holidays, shipping and handling times may be longer. Thank you for your understanding.
