Bronze-Fruchtbarkeitshänger, Dogon, Mali - Dogon - Mali (Ohne mindestpreis)
Origin: Dogon people
Country: Mali
Material: Bronze
Height: 4.5 cm
Presumed age: First half of the 20th century
Provenance: Ex private collection
Mounted on a small wooden stand
A small and evocative bronze pendant from the Dogon people of Mali, traditionally referred to as a “ring,” although such objects were in fact worn as pendants.
This compact form presents a strikingly symbolic design. The double pointed motif may be interpreted either as a stylized pair of female breasts or as the sharply peaked roofs of traditional Dogon granaries. In both readings, the symbolism is closely associated with fertility, abundance, and protection.
Cast using traditional methods, the pendant displays a fine aged patina consistent with early 20th-century production. Despite its modest size, it carries strong visual and symbolic presence, illustrating the Dogon ability to condense meaning into highly reduced forms.
A rare and compelling miniature object, ideal for collectors drawn to symbolic African adornment and sculptural abstraction.
