Japanese Edo-Period style Writing Set — Copper Ink Container with Brush (矢立 / Yatate), 17th–18th - Kalligrafiestift

This lot features a Japanese portable writing set (矢立 / Yatate) dating to the Edo period (17th–18th century). Yatate were essential personal writing tools carried by samurai, merchants, and scholars, consisting of a small ink container and an attached brush. The ink container is made of copper alloy and displays engraved decoration with a naturally developed patina from prolonged use. The attached brush is formed from bamboo and wood, secured with a textile cord, reflecting traditional construction methods. Such writing sets were designed for practicality and portability, allowing users to write notes, records, or correspondence while traveling. Over time, yatate have become highly collectible as examples of Japanese daily life objects and scholar’s tools from the Edo period. This example retains its original components and shows honest wear consistent with age, making it a genuine and evocative artifact of pre-modern Japanese culture. Method of Shipment FedEx or Japan Post NOTICE The lot will be carefully packaged and shipped by FedEx or Japan Post. Delivery usually takes 1–2 weeks. The shipping method may vary depending on the item price and size. Sometimes Customs or the delivery company in your country may contact you by phone or email for clearance. Please make sure you are available to respond. If not, the parcel may be returned to me, and reshipping will cost more than twice the original shipping fee. I appreciate your cooperation.
